4a Architekten, in a joint venture with Thoma Architekten of Berlin, has been awarded the contract for the new construction of the municipal swimming pool in Weißenfels. Together, the firms form ARGE I WEI, Leipzig.
With this new facility, the city of Weißenfels will gain a modern swimming center for school and club sports, public swimming, as well as leisure and local recreation. The goal is to enable various uses to take place simultaneously, thereby creating a versatile offering for schools, clubs, and the general public.
The site is located in the western part of the city and directly adjoins an existing sports complex. The new building is to be integrated into this environment both functionally and aesthetically, while also enhancing public access and internal circulation. The plan calls for a two-story building with a basement, divided into three functional areas: a foyer, a swimming hall with a swimming area, a spectator gallery, and staff areas; a second swimming hall with areas for non-swimmers, an adventure pool, and a children’s area, as well as mechanical rooms on the upper floor; and a separate sauna area.
