With the groundbreaking ceremony for the new RappSoDie bath in Bad Rappenau, a forward-looking public swimming complex has officially started construction. Together with other planning partners, 4a Architekten are realising a new spa, sports and family pool in which sustainability has been a guiding design principle from the very beginning.
On April 23, 2026, Mayor Sebastian Frei, architect Ulle Tillmanns, members of the municipal council, and representatives of the participating companies officially marked the start of the project.
Sustainable bath architecture in timber-hybrid construction
At the core of the new building is a comprehensive sustainable design concept based on a timber-hybrid construction system. It combines resource-efficient building methods with durable materials, forming the foundation for a future-proof public facility.
This approach is complemented by the application of the N!BBW criteria of the State of Baden-Württemberg, which address aspects such as energy efficiency, recyclability, indoor air quality, and life-cycle costs.
Integrating the existing structure, shaping the future
A key aspect of the design is the careful integration of the existing structure: the current sauna area will be retained and incorporated into the new overall concept. In this way, the project continues existing qualities while rethinking the public bath as a sustainable and future-oriented facility.
