The Spessart Therme in Bad Soden-Salmünster is to undergo a fundamental redesign and expansion. As part of the redesign, the existing facility’s bathing hall and sauna area will be replaced by a new thermal spa area featuring a variety of pools and an attractive sauna landscape. The task for 4a Architekten is to develop a coherent overall concept for this complex situation that integrates the new construction, the existing structure, and future usage requirements both functionally and aesthetically.

The existing changing rooms and wellness area will be retained structurally but will be functionally reorganized and aesthetically enhanced. The goal is to create contemporary comfort and a high-quality atmosphere within the existing structure as well. The new thermal spa area is intended to offer a diverse range of bathing experiences in the future and strengthen the Spessart Therme’s position as a destination for health and relaxation. The concept is complemented by a newly designed sauna area with quiet zones for regeneration and relaxation. An important component of the plan is the integration of the new 25-meter pool for school and club sports. It will be preserved and incorporated into the overall concept.

As a result, the future Spessart Therme will bring together various uses within a cohesive overall concept: health, leisure, and relaxation, as well as sports and swimming activities. Existing structures will be put to good use and supplemented with new elements—creating a thermally spa for Bad Soden-Salmünster that has been reimagined both architecturally and functionally.
